Players missing due to leaving cert orals and injurys meant a shuffle of positions on the night with girls playing in the opposite end of the pitch, to where they would usually be for much of the match. It was already looking glum before the ball had even been thrown in, when Lorna Fusciardi phones to say shes stuck in greystones with a flat tyre. A great start to the night, luckily they got there on time for throw-in. Our Ladies were the quickest off the mark with a well taken goal from Katie Redmond, who had an outstanding game in the forwards scoring another 2 points later on in the game. The Newtown girls fought hard and should have put a few more scores on the board to justify their work around the midfield area, but all credit to our backs who kept them out on almost every occasion-Becca Fusciardi playing a stormer on the wing with Niamh Sherlock putting in a great performance beside her with pacy runs to get the ball out of danger. In the Second Half it was the work of midfielder on the night Orla Kelly that caught peoples eye, challenging for every ball and supplying the forwards with quality passing. Maria O'Neill may have found herself a new position scoring a goal and two well taken points as she took on the role of corner forward. Overall it was a good performance by our ladies, stretching an unbeaten run to four matches now in the league with no signs of slowing up!! Team was: 1)Les Long 2)Becca Fusciardi 3)Emily Hanney 4)Eimear Ryan 5)Caoimhe Ní Súilleabhan 6)Niamh Sherlock 7)Erin Wiley 8)Laurie Ahern 9)Tracey O'Halloran 10)Deirdre Walsh 11)Lorna Fusciardi 12)Orla Kelly 13)Maria O'Neill 14)Katie Redmond. |
