Clubhouse and Grounds Development

Phase 1: New Clubhouse

Phase 1 of the new clubhouse is now open. This consists of our new hall, meeting room, ladies and gents toilets and facilities for the disabled. The club hall and meeting room are now available for hire, see below for more details.

Phase 2

Phase 2, when complete, will provide modern changing facilities for female and male players and referees. The main playing pitch (south pitch) will be floodlit to full match standard and the north pitch will be levelled. Much of this development work has been stalled due to delays in processing the necessary legal paperwork to draw down national lottery grant allocations (2005 and 2007). This was entirely beyond the clubs control. However, this issue has now been resolved.

The club was allocated €250,000 in national lottery funding in 2007, which, together with our matching funding, allows the club to proceed with the completion of the dressing room/changing facilities. Works are expected to recommence before the end of the year once approval has been received from the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism.

The club was allocated €50,000 in national lottery funding in 2005, which, together with our matching funding, allows the club to proceed with the erection of full match standard floodlighting on the south pitch (which has been the main playing pitch over recent years). It is anticipated that this work will be undertaken before the end of the year once approval has been received from the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism.

The old pitch (north pitch) is to be levelled, drained and reseeded. Work commenced on this work in late September with major earthmoving equipment excavating up to 2 metres of under-soil from the top end of the pitch and relocated this to the lower end of the pitch. Drains have also been installed to ensure adequate drainage. On completion of the major earthmoving works, the original topsoil was pushed back across the pitch. The final pitch will be approx. 132m long and 82m wide, which is about 15m longer and 10m wider than its predecessor. This work is being entirely funded by the club through fundraising and the sale of advertising hoardings.

As the north pitch will be out of commission for next season, some drains have been also installed at one corner of the south pitch to improve its capacity for games during wet weather, and this pitch has also be spiked and sanded in preparation for next year. This work is being entirely funded by the club through fundraising.

Finally, it is planned to provide line markings in the car park when all heavy machinery has vacated the site and development works are complete.

Funding

The total cost of completing these works is in excess of €1 million. Funding comprises a mix of national lottery grants, GAA club development grants provided by Leinster Council, the clubs Super Prize Development Draw that ran through 2007, the clubs weekly lotto, and a commercial bank mortgage (which requires repayments to be made on a quarterly basis).

Future

The club hopes to gain access to a strip of adjoining council land in the near future to develop a juvenile playing pitch and training area to cater for the growing number of underage players. The club has had discussions with senior council management and are hopeful of positive news about accessing and developing this land this in the near future.

Clubhouse Hire

The clubhouse hall and meeting room are available for hire when not scheduled for club use. The facilities are suitable for community groups, fitness clubs, yoga, martial arts, and also coaching courses and seminars etc. The meeting room is suitable for smaller formal or inforal meeting groups. Bookings are being taken at the moment. Please contact club chairman Oliver Leonard for more details. Contact details are available on the Contact Us page.

New Clubhouse - the story to date

In December 2002 Éire Óg Greystones GAA Club applied for planning permission to develop a new 441 sq. m. extension to existing 151.80 sq. m. Planning permission was granted in February 2003 subject to a number of conditions. A fire safety certificate has also been granted.

The total cost of completing the project has been priced in excess of €1 million. An application for national lottery funding was successful in 2004, allocating the club €200,000, a sum which the club will more than match through its own resources and a bank loan. However, due to a shortfall in overall funding, it has been necessary to divide the project into 2 phases.

Phase 1 will will include: a new extension (441 sq. m) to the side of the existing building (150 sq. m), erection of a new roof over the existing building and new extension, new kitchen, new sports hall, new ladies, gents and disabled toilets, meeting room, and reception area.

Phase 2 will see the refurbishment of the existing building resulting in a total of 4 dressing rooms each with internal showers, a referees room and shower, fitting out of the kitchen and meeting room, and external landscaping and carparking.

Construction of Phase One of the clubhouse development commenced in April 2005.

Phase 2 of the clubhouse development will be undertaken as funding permits.
