Weekly Notes - 23rd January 2008Annual Dinner DanceBy holding the cost of the tickets for the dinner Dance at €30 the club is doing its bit to keep the Cost of Living Index for February down. Punters with an eye for a bargain recognise what value these tickets now present and are buying them up fast. With stocks dwindling very rapidly you are advised to get your order in quickly. Despite what the sceptics among you may think, this is genuine advice and not a device to cause panic buying. New Years EveOn New Year’s Eve the club held its first structured social function in the clubhouse – a Supper Dance to welcome in the New Year. It is hoped that it will become an annual event. Upwards of 200 pre-booked revellers ranging in age from eighteen to that of President Patsy Vickers (on the basis of rather cursory research, the mantle of seniority is being bestowed on Patsy) danced 2007 into oblivion. The music of Telephone Bill and The Smooth Operators had the floor thronged with dancers from the throw-in at 8.oopm to the final whistle at 2.30pm. All reports from participants were of a well run and hugely enjoyable night. The organising of the event was, for the most part, borne by the youthful shoulders of Aisling Leonard (with back-up from Ann Barry) whose brainchild it was. The evening went off without a hitch – a testament to the thoroughness of the work which Aisling had put into its preparation. Ár ngreidhin thú, Aisling. Take a bow! Social And PersonalComhgáirdeachas to Brian Keaveney on his recent engagement. Brian was a committed member of the Junior/Intermediate panel in the early days of the team’s resurgence. He left to take up the less demanding challenge of the triathlon! The playing ranks of the club have recently been hit with a triple whammy with the departure of Síle and Eoin O’Neill and Míde Ní Shúilleabháin to foreign parts. Hopefully their absences are only temporary. Síle is off on what has become an almost obligatory rite of passage for those in their early twenties – that year out in Australia. Eoin is taking up a planning appointment in London while Míde has gone to work with the European Parliament in Brussels. Go n-eirí go geal leo! SympathyAll in Éire Óg Greystones extend their sincerest sympathies to Danny Hatton, and to the Hatton and Dowling families, on the death of his sister Teresa Dowling. The Dowling family operated a butcher’s shop on Church Road for a number of years. Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam Teresa. |
